First impressions!

They say that the first impression is the best impression. But I tend to disagree with that. First impressions aren’t always the best. That’s what I feel. Sometimes, nope scratch that, most of the time, it takes so long to really know a person. Many a time, our first impression about a person isn’t always correct. Over the course of time, as certain masks peel away, their behavior makes us realize the person who they really are… In that case, the first impression might be the best because the impression that we have about them might decrease in value when we get to know them better. Right? That’s what I’ve observed. But then I can’t exactly say that I’m a very good judge of character, but it’s so hard and unfair to base your assessment on first impressions alone. While first impressions may or may not be the best (I’ll leave that open to debate in the comments section!), I think that it’s the last impression that’s closer to reality. And that’s what matters. Because it is my opinion that first impressions may not always be the right one…

This doesn’t apply to people alone. I’ve observed the same with blog posts.. and animals! Sometimes when I’m writing a draft, I feel that particular post will perform very well. But I have been wrong about that. Certain posts about which I didn’t have many expectations initially have performed excellently and went on to become one of my top posts! And I’ve ended up cuddling many dogs/puppies/cats/kittens that growled at me initially. So yes, first impressions aren’t always right (or the best!) 😁

Author’s Note:

It’s been a while since I posted an actual rambling post on “My Random Ramblings”. For quite a long while, I’d been on a fiction writing marathon that I feared I’d have to change my blog name to tiny tales, six-word stories, and more fiction! πŸ˜‚ No, that isn’t a bad thing. Don’t get me wrong – I love writing fiction but no blog of mine would be complete and uniquely me if it doesn’t have an element of randomness. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚πŸ˜

  1. First impressions aren’t always the best. I think sometimes we may misjudge a person based on first impression without actually getting to know them. That’s what I think in my opinion

  2. I te d to agree with the saying first impressions are the best. For me,what my gut has told me about someone has often been right, and the times when I’ve disregarded my gut feeling… I’ve always been in trouble. But each person is different. Maybe I’m just weird πŸ˜‚

    1. At times my gut feeling has turned out to be wrong. So now, I’m wary of it! πŸ˜πŸ˜‚ Good for you that you’ve got such a great intuition! No dear, you’re not weird. You just have to have a super accurate gut feeling! 😁

  3. I agree with you in a way because there are a lot of people in my life who I didn’t have a great first impression of but now truly like and care about and on the other hand there are people I liked when we first met but don’t anymore. I think it’s just that when you first meet someone you are both kind of uncomfortable and don’t know anything about each other but later on you open up and learn so much about the other person from which we tend to decide whether we like them or not.
On the other hand there are some people who make a great first impression on you and remain in your good books. And others who you just don’t like from the moment you meet them and you just end up never liking them.

      1. Don’t worry about it it’s totally okay! It’s WP fault for not realising this can’t be spam because I follow you and it doesn’t have any links πŸ˜’

    1. Well said. I’m in total agreement. I’m with you on this. There’s no way to know for sure. We can’t generalize it because there are so many kinds of people and only time can tell how wrong/right we’re about judging people’s characters!

      1. Yeah exactly and some people we begin judging them before we even meet them or get to know them like a friend of our friend is probably someone you would probably like more and an enemy of a friend is probably someone you’ll dislike even without knowing more about them!

  4. Awesome post! I think my last comment got stuck in your spam!
I was just saying how I agree that some people even though they don’t make a great first impression they still end up being one of your closest friends however others who make great first impressions end up being people you don’t really like or get along with.
However on the other hand I think sometimes first impressions do matter because some people just make horrible first impressions and even though you give them more chances there just remains something about them that you don’t like and vice versa.

    1. I feel that it’s hard to know. With some people, you can connect instantaneously and that connection remains. But with some others, it fades away as time goes by. There are some others who get on your nerves at the start itself. They may grow on us or we’ll still feel annoyed by them! It’s so hard to generalize, right??

  5. Awesome post! I think my earlier comments are getting stuck in your spam!
I think first impressions aren’t always important because some people are really shy and closed off at first and I know because I’m like that too just how hard it can be to make a good first impression! Sometimes people you start of not really clicking with can end up becoming your closest friends and vice versa.
On the other hand first impressions are sometimes important and humans to tend to decide whether or not they like you depending on your first impression. It’s not even always consciously that we decide but we do and that’s why sometimes people who we have a bad first impression of just always seem a little off to us and we tend to give people who make a good impression on us more chances.

    1. So true! Sometimes people who we may not like at first can go on to become our best friends and the vice versa too! On a subconscious level, maybe first impressions are what make those decisions for us. But I really try to hold off on such decisions until I really know a person. It’s all so complicated, isn’t it!? I’m sorry this ended up in my spam and that it took me a while to rescue it. I’d been travelling and I was unable to check the spam folder! Sorry πŸ˜…

      1. Don’t worry about it! Actually the problem is with WP lot’s of my followers are getting stuck in my spam too! I think WP has a big or something!
Yeah it’s all very complicated mainly because we can’t control our unconscious. I try not to judge people on their first impression either but unfortunately most people do judge others depending on first impressions.

  6. I try not to judge people so I guess I don’t really believe in first impressions. But of late I have come to accept that we or at least I, see “people not as they are but as we are” (I am). Even my last impressions are not correct – just when I think I have someone pegged down or bracketed, there they go off on a tangent determined to destroy every illusion…

    1. I get what you mean… Humans are really hard to understand, right! “Seeing people not as they are but as we are” – the more I think about it, the more it makes sense! That’s a very good point that you’ve raised, Dahlia! Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. 😊

  7. It depends. Sometimes there is someone who on first impression you think “oh that person seems horrible” and he/she turns out to be lovely. Sometimes there are people who you think, looking at them, are angels. And they turn out to be devils.

    1. Yes. First impressions cannot be relied upon at all. I completely agree with what you said. πŸ™‚ Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. My sincere apologies for the delayed reply!
