six word story #51

Death stole our forever. Memories remain.

This post was written in response to my own Saturday Six Word Story Prompt (6WSP) #3: Dogs.

There’s a reason why I chose this particular word for this week’s prompt.

Four years ago, on September 20, we lost our furbaby Rocky. It’s been four years, but this is first time I gained the courage to write about him without reducing myself to tears. We’ve got a Rocky-shaped hole in our lives and in our hearts. You’ll be gone but you’ll never be forgotten, my dear Rocky. Even forever would not have been enough. ♥️

  1. I feel your loss. Even though it’s over 14 years ago, we still feel the ache of losing Barney, Maggie’s predecessor. I’ve written about it several times, and the pain is as raw as that March 5th day in 2005. She’s made a place for herself in our hearts as all our pets do. We never forget, and the memories do bring comfort to a degree.

    1. They all steal a part of our hearts as they go. It’s hard not to let them do so too. I’m sure Barney and Rocky are in a happier place over the rainbow bridge. But we’ll never forget them, for as soon as we both shall live. And yes, eventually, you learn to cherish the memories without letting the grief overpower you.

    1. The memories are all we have to hold on to them. It is painful. But with time, the pain slowly recedes and you learn to live with their memories. You miss them. You surely do. But you learn to live with just the memory of them and honour them in the best way you can. Thanks for reading, Aurora.

    1. There’ll never be anyone who can replace Rocky. But I will definitely adopt one more in the future who can try to fill his shoes. But the bar is set too high. But then again, dogs are all adorable sweethearts. So even though I will never get to have my Rocky, I’ll have another darling fur baby. Life is indeed about moving on. Hopefully time will lead me to that phase soon. Thank you so much for reading and for your lovely advice, Sanjota!

    1. So sorry to hear about Foxy. May her soul rest in peace. It’s heartbreaking to lose a pet. They say it can affect one more even than losing relatives. But that’s one fact only people who have had and lost pets will understand. Thank you for participating, Kitty. ♥️
