#AtoZChallenge One-liner: U is for Umbrella

Umbrella

(noun)

An object that has the potential to protect you from rain (and sun!), but ironically the day you forget to carry it ends up being the rainiest of days!

Did you know that the basic umbrella was invented nearly 4000 years ago and that initially it was only used by nobility and royalty?

Initially, umbrellas were treated as a female accessory. But even now, many of the men I know (including but not limited to my brother) turn their noses up at the thought of having to carry an umbrella!

And you have the option of either waiting it out or getting drenched from head to toe.

Whenever I forget my umbrella, it rains. Often, very heavily. Has this ever happened to you?

  1. I live in a windy place. If the wind doesn’t invert the umbrella then it blows the rain under the umbrella. It helps to have a long raincoat or poncho as well if you want to keep dry.

  2. Most of my guy friends think it ‘uncool’ to carry around an umbrella, and then whine about not having one when it rains or is too sunny. facepalm But hey, not having an umbrella is an excuse to get happily drenched which I love :p until I catch a cold that is!

  4. Oh I agree. The day you don’t carry an umbrella it will certainly decide to rain. But it’s cumbersome to carry. I cannot remember the number of umbrellas I’ve forgotten and lost.

  5. This is the second U for Umbrella I’ve come across and how different the two posts are! Loving this challenge. I’ll miss it (like the forgotten umbrella) when it’s over, especially if this virus doesn’t abate.

  6. Umbrellas are perceived to be a liability…in that you have to remember to carry it back with you wherever you go.

But hey, I value my umbrella. Hell, some people value other people’s umbrellas too :p

  7. It has happened so many times that I have carried an umbrella for weeks because the weather forecast said it would rain. And then I forgot or left it at home on a certain day, which is when the Rain Gods decided to shower their love. Phew!

    1. Glad to know that you agree! Only God knows the answer to that, although my brother tells me that it’s pointless to carry an umbrella when it’s not raining. I strongly suspect this is just another excuse for him to get drenched in the rain! The day I forget to pack my umbrella ends up being the day I need it the most! Thank you for reading. 😄
