X
(a variable, the worst enemy of anybody who hates Mathematics)
The variable that Mathematics forced to keep finding, differentiating, and integrating all through our childhood.
If only Mathematics had prepared us for the fact that life forces us to find x,y,z, and many other unknowns without even giving the slightest hints. I miss dear old Mathematics.
If you haven’t guessed it already, Mathematics was one of my favourite subjects. And when I was small, my grandfather used to teach me mathematics. He’s one of the reasons why I have a close bond with mathematics. My love for mathematics is one of the reasons why I chose to be an engineer. π π
Here’s an interesting fact:
Did you know that the word “hundred” originated from the Old Norse word “hundrath,” which means 120, and not 100! In Old Norse, “hundrath” means “long hundred,” which equals 120, due to the duodecimal system. Pretty confusing right? No wonder, maths has a lot of problems.
What did you think about this post? Did you hate Mathematics too? How many times has the variable “x” landed you in trouble with your professors?
P.S: Here’s another tiny tale that I wrote about “x” as a part of another AtoZChallenge. π

I’m not keen on mathematics and I think that’s due to a particularly unpleasant maths teacher I had to endure for many years in my teens. I can do part of my 1 times table – 1×1 = 1, 1×2 = 2, 3×1 = ?
X is for …

Haha! It does depend on one’s teacher. Luckily for me, I had my grandpa. Thanks for reading, Keith. Apologies for my extremely delayed response. π

x has made me question my intelligence plenty of times. I don’t hold any grudges any more. I’ve made my peace with x–on axis and off axis;)

I was reasonably okay with mathematics, though I wasn’t very good.

I hate maths, was never good at it. This little ‘x’ may have ruined my father’s dream of seeing his daughter becoming an engineer…that’s about it..haha!

I did like mathematics. I studied it upto graduation even though Economics was my honours subject in Graduation. A lot of mathematical models are used in Economics.
