Yawn
(verb)
Definition 1:
An involuntary action that is contagious and very hard to suppress, which tends to make regular appearances in the middle of lessons, meetings and conferences, but doesn’t carry deadly consequences like its distant cousin: sleeping.
Covering your mouth is one of the best ways to suppress a yawn. 😛
Back in school, I discovered the most ingenious way to cover up yawning. I would drop my pen to the floor and spend an abnormally long time to retrieve it. And no, I was never caught!
Here’s an interesting fact:
Yes. Yawning is contagious. Even videos of people yawning can cause you to experience a yawning session. Don’t believe me? Try it out and see for yourself. 🙂

Yawns are absolutely contagious for me. It’s even funnier when my daughter and I bounce yawns back and forth until one of us manages to break the chain…

That happens whenever I’m video calling my mother at night. Both of us will be yawning too much that we end up feeling very sleepy! Guess what? I’m yawning even as I type this message. 😃🤭

Haha that dropping the pen thing I started doing when someone told me that yawning is a show of disrespect. But mostly, I just pinch my lips so the yawn doesn’t escape. Ends up making my face look weird 😀

Ohh, it will make your face look very weird indeed. I used to do that but then my friends keep asking me if I was alright. So, I returned to my trusted favourite – drop the pen trick. 🤭

Yawn is how my present state of mind feels these days. Thank God it is just one more day before the April madness gets over. Though I’m going to miss it, I can’t wait to attend to my yawns and sleep peacefully.

That’s true. Waiting till midnight to post in the linky was a tough job. There were days when I was too tired to stay up! But that has come to an end. April seems to have passed in the blink of an eye!

It’s fascinating to be in a room a watch a yawn start traveling, and finding how impossible it is to resist one.

Yes! I’ve been there and done that too. It’s fun as long people are not yawning at your lectures or presentations!

Lovely photo. My Mom used to be able to get us all to yawn by singing “I’m a yawning man” with suitable yawns blending into the words.

I found the baby to be too cute to resist! It is highly contagious. Just reading your comment made me yawn! No wonder the song had such an effect on you!!

Dropping a pen works wonders. I had read somewhere long back that sooner a person responds to another’s yawn is a positive indication of his level of emotional quotient.

It sure does. Have you tried this trick too? Yes and it’s a measure of their empathy too. Thank you for reading, Aishwarya.

Bending down to hide your yawn was a clever idea, Shweta:) I had an accountancy teacher who would always yawn in class (multiple times).

It was quite an ingenious trick my friends and I used 😂😂😂😂😂
An accountancy teacher who yawns multiple times! It’s a miracle that you were not sleepy enough to remember that!
