SoCS – Zz

For today’s Stream of Consciousness, Linda, our lovely host has selected the prompt – zz. Our mission is to find a word with double-z in it and use it in our post. Like all SoCS posts, the trick is to keep writing without any editing. The first thing that came to my mind is the word “buzzing”. You know, that annoying sound that mosquitoes make. Hold on, that’s what it’s called, right? Yep, Google has confirmed it. The buzzing sound is made by the beating of mosquito wings. I hate it when the buzzing keeps me awake when I am struggling to catch some z’s. Somehow even in a crowded, the nasty little buggers somehow mark me as their only victim. I guess I can find little consolation in the fact that my blood is probably too delicious. But that’s not a very comforting thought. Thank God, vampires are not real. (Or are they? – A little voice speaks from the back of my mind. Shush! You, little voice. Is it any wonder that I have kept it suppressed?) But then again, who needs vampires when we have mosquitoes. Sometimes, they are the reason why I don’t get to see how my wonderful dreams are going to end. Oddly enough, they never bite me and help me to wake up when it’s a nightmare. Sadistic little creatures! It makes me wonder whether they have a dream-o-meter built into their tiny bodies. I wake up, only keep hitting against the spot that itches so badly. More often than not, the mosquito would have been long gone by then, its tummy full of my precious blood. Occasionally, I manage to hit the mosquito, and – well, you can imagine what a bloody mess it will be. (Pun intended). Sound sleep – Is it too much to ask for? Apparently, the mosquitoes think so. But the moment I break out my electric bat, the mosquitoes seemingly vanish. They don’t dare come near me when I am armed with the bat. One swat with the bat and they will be electrocuted to death. If it isn’t clear already, I hate mosquitoes. Not only do they thrive on our blood, but they also manage to transmit diseases to us free of cost. Dear stupid mosquitoes, have you ever heard of the barter system? I guess not. It’s either that or you don’t believe in ethics. It’s just the females though, who thrive on blood. Ladies, you should really let your menfolk show you the way! I guess this rambling has gone on long enough.

If you have made it till here, thanks for reading. I really felt like venting out through words today. That felt good!

Speaking about my hatred towards mosquitoes, here are two more posts that you might like. They are mercifully shorter than this one. ๐Ÿ˜‰

What about you? Do you hate mosquitoes too? Do the mosquitoes hunt you down too?

    1. Oh. That sucks. The poor little one. An electric bat is very effective but the sound might cause the little one to wake up! I just let my mind go wherever it wanted to. This prompt is all about noting down our thoughts without any edits. Thank you so much, dear. ๐Ÿ™‚

      2. Ohh. I’m glad that I was able to introduce you to a new challenge. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
It’s fun. This was one prompt that I couldn’t pass up. Oh, mosquitoes tend to do that. In my case, they mostly settle on top of the curtains. So I give them a quick pat down and out comes the little pests.

  1. Well, if I were around you, they would have a feast. You for dinner and me for dessert! It’s that time of year and we have them everywhere in our backyard even though we don’t have any standing water. We used to have pitcher plants that are in the venus flytrap family and they kept the skeeters down. They died after 5 years and now we need new ones, but can’t get to our supplier due to health concerns with COVID. Ugh! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Ohh I’ve never heard of pitcher plants. That sounds like a great defence against them! Oh yes, they would definitely have a feast. Sorry to hear about your plants. Safety takes top priority. But I hope you can get to your supplier soon. I can’t wait for this ordeal to be over. Until then, stay safe. Take care.

  2. They become more annoying especially when we have to read all the different types of mostiquotes ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…

  3. “Whoever said not to let little things bother you has never slept in a room with a mosquito” – I forget who said it but that just about sums up my feelings for them ๐Ÿ˜€

  4. Kochiyile kothukanu kothuku ๐Ÿ˜… Funnily this brought back some nostalgic old mosquito days for me. We had two mosquito bats at home and it was literally a battle between my brother and me. Especially during powercut because you canโ€™t properly see the mosquitoes. We wait for the fighter jet sound to come closer to hit it.
Also, My husband hates mosquitoes. He comes fully equiped with the bat and odomos when we visit my home. He apply odomos everywhere. Still, mosquitoes some how find their space and bite him. Frankly, I really enjoy his fight with mosquitoes ๐Ÿ˜€ Whenever I mention about visiting my home, his first words are alwayyyysss โ€˜Ughh Moshhhquittooess!โ€™
