short story #22: A Statue’s Musings

One would assume that one mistake would be enough. One might even think that humans would learn not to repeat the same mistake over and over again. An invisible virus shook their world and brought them to their knees. Things got so worse so fast that many humans went into “hibernation” mode. They stayed holed up in their homes for weeks. That gave Nature some breathing space to work her magic and heal Mother Earth. But the humans got bored. They came out of hiding and violated the guidelines set by their own kind against the invisible enemy. Even now, they gather together in huge numbers, shunning masks, and other protective steps. Social distancing seems like a joke. When are they ever going to learn? But then again, what do I know? I’m just a statue, stuck in a facepalm forever. Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise. I just can’t bear to watch the humans sabotaging themselves. Eww! Hey, pigeon. What was that for? I’m not your personal poop space. Shoo! Scram! Go find somewhere else to poop. I have got covered in enough poop for the day!

  1. I agree with you, humans don’t learn from history
Unless it is repeated again with more damage and this cycle continue
I loved the way you wrote it 😊💙

  3. Lol that ending was on point though! This was such an interesting point of view. It reminded me of this story by Margaret Atwood called Bluebeard’s Egg in which one of the character writes the story of Bluebeard through the POV of the egg.

    1. Haha. I’m glad you liked it. I think this story might not have the humourous tone that I intended it to have. I feel so! Wow. It’s an honour that this story reminded you of the work of such a great author!
I have not read that one. Thanks for the suggestion. 😀

      1. I thought it was funny and ironic and sort of a satirical take on humanity. Not sure if everyone felt that way. Ooh you should read it for sure it’s so great!
