Variety is the spice of life

When I was just a child
Adulting seemed fascinating.
It seemed like
A tempting bowl of candy
Within my line of sight
That I just couldn't reach.
But as an adult,
I realised that
Looks can be deceiving.
Life isn't an easy ride.
It's an epic rollercoaster ride,
A crazy mix,
Of happiness, sadness,
Anger, pleasure, hatred, love,
Fear, courage, wonder,
Sunshine and dark clouds,
Immense joy and spells of misery.
Like the different colours of candy,
Each emotion was special
In its own way.
Without sadness,
We will never know
Or appreciate
The value of happiness.
The dark days help us evolve,
And transform into better versions.
We can handpick candy
Decide which colours we want,
But life doesn't offer that choice.
We have got to experience it all.
As someone rightly said,
Variety is the spice of life.
One colour seems too monotonous
Though I am not a fan
Of certain shades of life,
I will take them all,
Experiencing the highs and lows
As life throws them my way.

This verse was written in response to the Photo Challenge #324 hosted at Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie and Fandango’s FOWC challenge for the day: Epic. The first challenge is to use the photo prompt as an inspiration for a poem or short story. FOWC challenge is all about using the given word in a post. Thank you, NEKNEERAJ and Fandango for hosting these challenges.

For the visually challenged, the picture shows a close-up view of an assortment of various colours of gummy candy in a small glass bowl.

      1. Oohh. There’s a crowd everywhere!
I’m okay. I’ve been taking the time to relax. Bake a little, read a little, do all the things that my busy schedule prevents me from doing otherwise..

  1. That is very good poetry writing, and I liked the comparison to candy. Funny it reminded me that I always seem to order the same thing at my favorite restaurants. Life is variety, and so is the weather, and it’s best we enjoy it all, the only constant in life is change after all.

    1. I’m so happy to hear that this comes under good Poetry. I’m slightly less confident about my poems ๐Ÿ˜… Thank you so much for your reassuring words.
Funny that you mentioned that. I mostly order the same things too. Because on the rare occasions that I order something new, it never seems to be as good as my regular order! ๐Ÿ˜‚ I guess that sort of makes me a hypocrite. But I try to enjoy the variety as much as I can. That’s so well said. Change is the only thing that is constant.

  2. That is whatโ€™s great about this life the uncertainty of it. It sucks sometimes but thereโ€™s always a turning point where everything suddenly feels so simple ๐Ÿ˜Š

P.S. I was drawn by the photo of the candy to this post ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜„

  3. This is Excellent–we don’t have choices about some circumstances, events, but if we stretch we can choose a good attitude. This happens with maturity, usually–and I’m only just getting there, despite my advanced years ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I tend to forget this at times.. So I have to keep reminding myself. That’s when it starts flowing into my thoughts and words. Thank you so much for reading โ˜บ๏ธ

    1. Oh yes, it’s very much overrated. And now that we are experiencing it, it doesn’t seem that much fun anymore. Glad you know that I’m not all alone. Thank you so much for reading ๐Ÿ˜Š
