Sunrises

The sky was bloodshot. The rays of the rising sun cast a reddish glow over the morning sky and painted the clouds red. The morning rays kissed the waiting horizon and spread the light gradually but steadily, dispelling the blanket of darkness. The Golden Orb was yet to make his appearance but his magnificent rays set the tone for his spectacular entry. Sunrises are glorious and spectacular. Though they are a daily occurrence, sunrises don’t lose their charm because of their routine. Every sunrise is beautiful and glorious in its own way. They signal a new beginning, hope, and a chance to start afresh.
During the lockdown, on the rare occasions when I woke up early, I dragged myself to the veranda. I couldn’t exactly see the sunrise but I marveled at how the sky changed its hues in the early morning. The chirping of the birds seemed so melodious. I watched the commotion in the streets as the vegetable vendors unloaded the fresh produce and set up their stalls. I watched early-bird shoppers turning up at the shops to get to the milk before all the packets were sold out. The slight chill of the morning air made me draw my sweater closer. I fixed myself a cup of tea and returned to my vantage point in the verandah. As I nursed my steaming mug of tea, the sky slowly shed its reddish hues. As the sun rose higher and higher, the calm blanket of dawn was permeated by the din of city life. Even in the hustle and bustle of nature, I had my tiny but perfect slice of nature. And it never fails to calm me down when I am troubled. It fills me with a sense of tranquility that calms down my racing heart and thoughts and slows down my head when it seems to be spinning. And I am glad and grateful for my perfect slice of nature.

This post was written in response to the Tale Weaver – #286 – Sunrise – 30th July prompt hosted by Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie. The challenge, this week, was to write a response to the word “sunrise”. I went with a very abstract this time. I feel as if I am drained. I couldn’t bring myself to spin a flash fiction for this prompt. 😦 Hopefully, it’s not a writer’s block! Fingers crossed.

For the visually challenged readers, the given photo was taken at 6.30 am recently of the morning sunrise.

      1. Thanks Shweta, getting there. Right now it’s very early nights and getting up way too early too! But no sunrises yet as it’s cloudy for last couple of days.

    1. Awww, thank you so much, my dear Rhyming Princess. I guess I was feeling a bit worried because I couldn’t spin a story out of this. Thanks a lot. Your comment has got me smiling 😊

I don’t get up always in time for the sunrise but when I do, I try to catch a glimpse. I’m very much fine, my dear. Thank you so much 🥰

  2. This is beautiful. Love the way you introduced it and when you said they happen every day but are beautiful in different ways, it had me hooked. 🌸

  3. This was really beautiful Shweta!! I loved how effortless it was, and of course very tranquil. And your descriptive phrases were just right! Not too much, not too less. I don’t think this is writer’s block! Maybe you are just channeling a different side of your mind!
    Have a wonderful day dear!🤗💞🧡🌹

      1. My pleasure, Shweta!

I’m facing something similar too. I have an idea in mind for a tale for more than 2 weeks. I’m unable to frame a structure to it. I thought it’s one of the side-effects of lockdown.
