The little family of three had stepped into the home appliances store with the sole intent of buying a brand new washing machine and they had chosen one at last after much deliberation.
They had been waiting for their faithful old semi-automatic machine to breathe its last before upgrading it, and at last, the onslaught of the pandemic induced cleanliness frenzy had pushed the poor old machine over the edge.
Ria, their six-year-old climbed into their chosen model before anyone could stop her, and proclaimed that it was the best washing machine because it was big enough to hold her, and it was certainly more than capable of handling their large load of laundry!

I hate doing laundry in the absence of a washing machine. When I got a job and moved to a different city, my hatred towards doing laundry made me buy a basic semi-automatic washing machine. It was a great investment that served its purpose well and saved me a lot of time and effort. However, my work got more demanding and I was running short of time and patience with all the chores that waited for me at home.
While my machine was an improvement, there were times when I forgot to turn on (or turn off) the water supply in time and do the other required manual interventions which ended up making me feel guilty about the wasted resources and time. Not to mention the ear-splitting blaring of its alarm as soon as its assigned task was completed! And yes, I am human after all. I craved for something even better, something that made doing a load of laundry a seamless task.
One of my happiest moments in the last year was when I finally got an automatic washing machine. Yes, there are still moments when I gaze at it adoringly. And it’s nearly turning one. I love it so much that I might even bake a little birthday cake (and end up making it to clean all my messy clothes while I finish the cake all by myself! 😉 )
This might seem like privileged talk in a time when a lot of people are dealing with diseases, shortage of food, and money, but bear with me. But I don’t want to focus on the pandemic for once. Also, I love my washing machine. That, or I hate washing clothes manually. Am I the only person who feels this way?
For visually challenged readers, the image shows an array of front-loading washing machines arranged, each one on top of another one in a typical electronics store or laundromat setup. You can see a pair of legs extending from the insides of one such machine whose door is open. It looks like a child’s legs with white sports shoes and yellow knitted half-knee length socks with double black borders.
Stay safe, everyone.

I absolutely loved it.
The way you said it’s nearly turning 1 and then how you said I am baking a cake for it.
And then how you said I might end up sounding privileged but I am not focusing on covid for now which is so nice haa Shweta ✨
I read it all and I really enjoyed it.
Sharing how you got that automatic machine. I swear it’s a blessing for mankind. A fully automatic machine. I know how much I love mine. I absolutely connected.
One should definitely write this out of the box stuff to engage the audience, other than talking only depressing stuff of covid.

I’m so glad that you enjoyed it. Thank you so much, Rashmi. Haha, I’m going to do that! I’m just looking for any reason to bake, not that I need any but still. I’m so happy that you absolutely loved it. And thanks for letting me in so many words. I’m so happy that you got where I’m coming from. 😃
Oh yes, it’s a true blessing indeed. Yes, I refuse to give more power to the virus. And I’m so happy that you liked it. Thanks a lot, dear. ❤️

Then I should do that more often.
As I held myself incharge for loving my people and making them smile, as that’s the least I can do.
You’re one of my Favorites Shweta✨

Oh, I know. Those are the moments that make us miss it the most. How are you now, HS? Have you recovered from the flu?
And yes, once we have got used to an automatic one, going back to a semi-automatic one feels miserable.

Yes Shweta …almost there .. just the cough has to go. But out of my room with mask on! 😷

Thank you so much. I’m glad that you noticed that part. I started including descriptions for photo prompts recently, after seeing a fellow blogger do so. Since there may be who are not blessed with sight, I didn’t want them to miss out on anything. Hence the detailed description.

Hahaha nice and cute story, Shweta and the picture too was apt with your take on washing machines. Nice to be having a washing machine so that no need to washing so many clothes that I too used to do in my younger days.

A good washing machine is an essential in my opinion! I can’t even imagine having to do all of the laundry by hand.

I know, right! It’s very much essential. I’ve washed my laundry my hand initially, before I got my washing machine. Laundry was like a nightmare back then!
