Too much water ruined the upma.
This post was written in response to my own Saturday Six Word Story Prompt (6WSP) #56: Water. Click on the link to read entries from my fellow bloggers.
Author’s Note:
Upma (or uppumavu as it is called in my mother tongue) is a South Indian breakfast that is made from dry-roasted semolina. Too much water can totally ruin the upma. And yes, no prizes for guessing – I have ruined upma by adding too much water. I have done it so many times – more than what I an count!
This prompt really threw me. I couldn’t come up with anything else in 6 words! So here is my half-baked attempt.

Hahaha! Nice take. I can relate to it. I have spoiled upma most of the time I have tried making it by adding extra water!😅😅

Hi5! Getting the quantity of the water right can be so tricky!!! But don’t worry, you’ll improve with practice.

One day I’ll improve with practice. Fingers crossed!😅

Oh, too much water is like kryptonite 😂
It turns mushy and you’ll most probably have to throw out the ruined batch and start all over again.
Must have been a close call, huh? I’m glad that they weren’t ruined.

Oh whoa. That’s such a coincidence. Sometimes I end up roasting it too much that it becomes charred…I mean, smoked 😂😉
Thank you so much 💖
How did you manage to save it, HS?

Oh I love it too. You can put vegetables and it’ll still be tasty and it’s very easy to make. Unfortunately, that doesn’t stop me from screwing it up at times 😂

Yeah it’s so easy and I love it with veggies! I usually make my sister make it because I mess it up lol.

😅😅😅 Didn’t expect this tragic story here. Good one! And of course, this is the saga of every homemaker. Personally I like my upma watery, love to have them warm with that smooth texture sliding down my throat, instead of battling with hardened lumps of semolina, wondering whether I should break the chunks or chew them in my mouth 😅

I was kind of running out of inspiration. Haha. Now that’s a very positive approach to a watery upma. In my case, the water becomes too much that I have to let it boil and simmer for a while to attain that smooth texture. My grandmother prefers the soft upma too. 😃
