A letter to my Immune System

Dear Immune System,

You and I have been through a few battles. Though I won’t ever be able to put a face to your name, I know that you do your duty and serve me well every second of every day for as long as you possibly can. And hopefully, you will be able to keep doing that till my very last day on this planet. But wait, that’s just a metaphor. It does not mean that you can just pack up and go for an extended holiday if I ever move to the Moon or maybe even Mars.

This year has not been a good one. The entire world has been brought to its knees by a minuscule virus. I know that this is a tough time. We have got to be on our guard. Even the slightest slip up might have some bitter consequences. And I am going to need you to be tougher than ever. Statistics are on our side but I want you to be so damn strong that nothing unwanted ever sneaks in through your barriers and takes us by surprise.

And I will allocate more resources to you in terms of good, nutritious food, vitamin supplements, good sleeping patterns, and so on. C’mon don’t roll your eyes at me. You know that I have given up on junk food. I can get enough sleep too… if only I can put down my phone in time! But I will get there. I have got it under control. You have got nothing to worry about. I mean, other than doing your job well and blasting viruses into smithereens the moment they cross the threshold. Sounds simple, no? After all, that’s what you have been doing all your life! 😉

So, my dear Immune System, I need you now. More than ever. I need you to be the best ever warrior in the history of all battles. You are my first (we are not counting the mask and sanitizer but you know that I use them religiously!) and last line of defense. You are the one thing that I can rely on to keep intruders out or fight them till they are dead when they cross the threshold to our domain. I want you I need you to be strong and impenetrable. Don’t let me down. Please. I will do everything in my power to make you great and I need you to do everything in your power to hold down the fort until the vaccine is here. I hope it doesn’t take that long but I have full trust in you. Until then my good friend, keep fighting.

Author’s Note:

Many of you might have noticed that I have been a lot less active over the last couple of days. I experienced a slight fever and severe body pain yesterday. I was too sick to go to the hospital straight away. I still have my senses of taste and smell. And I don’t have a cough or headaches. However, I was able to go in today. They have asked me to take rest and go back after two days. They told me that I need not take a test right away. If any of the symptoms are present, I will have to undergo a COVID test. Here’s to hoping that this is just a viral fever like my doctors suspect.

This October, I am taking my blog to the next level with Blogchatter’s #MyFriendAlexa2020 campaign!
