Mixed Canvas – a delightful read!

When life gives you lemons, normal people make lemonade. What do you get when you mix a bunch of children, boredom, an amazing mentor, and an unexpected-and-seemingly never-ending break? Any guesses? I’ll tell you. You get something that’s much better than lemonade.

Gunjit Nasa, Raed Zidan, Siddarth Menon, Kriti Gupta, Shrutikaa Mukund, Mahatru Hariharan, Diya Anil, Devanshi Singhal, Ishanvi Shetty, and Bhakti Mundra are a very talented bunch of pre-teens. There is no doubt about it. And when life handed out lemons to them, they make lemonade, lemon tarts, lemon bars, and then some! This lovely bunch drove away their lockdown blues by delving into writing. Their words kept boredom at bay, gave rise to so many delightful poems and stories, which eventually became “Mixed Canvas”.

As I was reading this book, I highlighted all those parts that blew my mind. The fact that all of these poems and stories are written by pre-teens makes it even more amazing! I had every intention of including those “notes” in my review post but there are so many of them that it’ll be hard to cram them all in. But that alone should give you an idea of beautiful this lockdown creation is.

Mixed Canvas is exactly what it promises to be – a mixed but nevertheless a beautiful complication of poems and stories, spanning different genres.

Congratulations to all these bussing writers. And hats off to Pranitha Menon – their mentor who also happens to be one of my favourite bloggers.

I don’t do book reviews. It’s just not my thing, but for this book, I thought I’ll make an exception… if only to applaud the efforts of these children. 🙂

It’s available on Kindle. Grab your copy here!

I would place this book at a 3.5 to 4ish out of 5 stars. See what I meant about reviews not being my thing! Integers are not my thing when it comes to ratings.

Take a chance on this book and read. If you have kids, nieces, nephews, or grandchildren, do read this book out to them. But don’t let that fool you into thinking that this is a book for children alone.

Although the authors are kids, this is as enjoyable to an adult as it to to a child. Prepare to be amazed at the depth of the writing and the originality of ideas.

Happy Reading!

  1. Hi, I was anxious to get a kindle version of Mixed Canvas on Amazon and disappointed when I was told it was for India customers only. Oh Well, your post did excite me to action…attempted at least. Dr. Bob
