Running out of time…

We keep looking back,
though we know that it's useless.
Time is rather unforgiving.
Once it's over, there is no going back.
You can't turn back time,
You can't jump ahead either,
You can't stop, pause, or fast forward.
You have to take what you can get,
make the most of it while it plays.
Time only deals with the present.
We might be stuck in the past,
or wondering about the future…
Meanwhile the present goes by,
seemingly in the blink of an eye.
And very soon,
before you know it
or realize it,
it's all over.

This poem was written in response to Sadje’s What Do You See prompt #51. Thank you, Sadje for hosting this challenge. The challenge is to use the picture prompt as inspiration to compose an original story, poem, or a caption.

For the visually challenged reader. the image shows an hour glass sitting on a small table. The sand has run through the glass. Two hand are reaching for it from opposite ends.

This October, I am taking my blog to the next level with Blogchatter’s #MyFriendAlexa.

  1. What you say is so very true. Having dealt with loss it is hard to move from the past, it is something you want to hold onto. Unfortunately, you do miss out on the present. There isn’t any way to change the past, even if we try so hard. I think moving on in some situations is scary, maybe why people get stuck in it. My therapist brings me back to the present quite often when I get hung up on all the things that have happened before. Reminding yourself to not miss what is going on now is super advice.
