Nightfall

Dusk prepares to settle down
The golden prince takes his leave
A cloud of misty vapour veils his exit
The ripples in the lake care not
that the day has given way to night

Having had his fill of the beautiful scenery
the lone child at the pier hurries home,
hurrying to get home
before darkness descends
and clouds his vision.

The pall of darkness slowly envelops the air.
The silver prince gets ready
to assume the throne,
the one left empty by the golden prince.
The day ends, the night falls.

This poem was written in response to Sadje’s What Do You See prompt #83. Thank you, Sadje for hosting this challenge. The challenge is to use the picture prompt as inspiration to compose an original story, poem, or a caption. This was my last minute take on the prompt.

For the visually challenged reader, the image shows wooden pier extending into a lake. The sky overhead is partly cloudy with sun trying to peep.

    1. I’m glad this reminded you of those times. Me too! That was the only thing I could draw. Alternating lines of red and yellow with crayons to show the sun’s rays. I sucked at shading, and drawing too. A triangle on top of a square made up a house and then I drew humans as stick figures. 😂

    1. Thank you so much for the prompt, Sadje. I just couldn’t bear the thought of missing out on this prompt. It was such a beautiful picture. Thanks for prompting this poem. It’s always a pleasure to join your challenge ❤️🤗
