In the earlier days
we had so many choices,
freedom to roam about,
to explore places
far and near,
unmasked and unafraid.
We could go to the cinema
and then maybe hit a restaurant.
Stepping out was fun
and all that we did
over most weekends.
Malls, parks, street food,
shopping, dining out,
movies, concerts,
road trips, partying
- we did it all!
The more the merrier,
and so it went
until a tiny virus
changed our world,
turned it upside-down!
Gone were the fun days,
the carefree days,
when one could roam about
without masks,
without fear,
without any restrictions.
Even after a year,
the curse seems unbroken.
Crowds have become deadly.
It's the age of no contact,
double masks, sanitizers,
And vaccine jabs.
Will this dark phase ever end?
Will life ever go back...
to how it used to be?
Can we even hope
that there will ever be
a way back!
We took normalcy for granted.
But now, we crave it.
We want normalcy restored,
more than ever!
We bid our time,
eagerly waiting
for hope, for a miracle!
Anything to save us
from the clutches of despair.
Anything to set us free,
to take us back,
back to a time
when we didn't have to mask up,
or feel scared to step up,
or gather without any fear.

Seriously! The whole charm has gone out of everything.
Hope things change soon and we get back to a semblance of normal!
You’ve covered everything so well in verse! 👍😊

When life was normal, we wished there was a pause button. Now when we have it, we want to go back to life as it was. We humans do love contradictions so much! Am sure, when things speeden up again, we’ll miss this too. 🙂
I love how you made use of those three words so seemlessly. This is cleverly written!

So true. We only realise the value of something when we don’t have it anymore. Haha, yes, it’s possible that we might miss some things from the covid era. We are a very contradictory species indeed. Thank you so much for reading and for you kind words 🙂🤗

Yss, when reality hits us so hard.. sometimes,it will hurt us badly. The good times we had, our happy days without masks . Those were my happy days, now It seems like those happiness has faded and I am left with sorrows.

So much to hold on to in the past. Hopefully, the good days.. the happy days will return. This too shall pass. Hang in there. All we can do is hope and pray! Thanks a lot for reading and for sharing your thoughts about the poem 😊

Beautiful post and so true we only realize what we had now that we don’t it. Missing the freedom of being able to go where we want to go and do what we want to do. Now a simple trip to the grocery shop is often a mission !!🌼💛
