Pitch Black and the Seven Dwarfs – Part 1

Once upon a time on a winter’s eve, when nightfall had dropped a veil of darkness over the world and the ornate fireplace was spitting out embers, Queen Esmeralda sat by her window, which provided the most beautiful view in their Kingdom. The bright moon against the backdrop of the dark sky looked so beautiful that she thought to herself, “If only I had a child as dark as coal, as brave as a lion, and as wise as an owl.”
Not long afterward, her wish came true albeit partially. Queen Esmeralda gave birth to a baby girl. They called her Pitch Black. Her skin tone was the darkest and the most beautiful in the Kingdom and was the envy of all the pale, fair maidens in the Kingdom. Unfortunately, Queen Esmeralda died when Pitch Black was still far too young to remember her.

A year later, the King remarried. Queen Rowena, the new and second Queen, and Pitch Black’s stepmother was not a very beautiful woman with her fair skin, but she was very wise. She loved Pitch Black like her own daughter. Her biggest dream was to have a kingdom of wise people. She could not stand stupidity and foolishness. Queen Rowena had a magical mirror. Every morning she stood before it, looked at herself, and said:

Mirror, mirror, on the wall,
Who in this land is wisest of all?
To this the magical mirror answered…

  1. I really love this concept, and I’m very excited to read the next part. Especially the fact that she wished for a daughter with skin as black as coal and that she was the envy of other, pale girls. I’m always supportive of stories that show love for dark skin since society rarely does. ❤

    1. Thank you so much. That was my very intention behind this twist – show love for dark skin because society is obsessed with fair skin. That’s how Pitch Black was born… in a world where black skin got so much love. The next part is already up. 🙂

  8. A new fairy tale. Really loved the concept of dark being the most beautiful as we have always been shown the female protagonist to always be fair. Will be reading the other parts soon.
