Anxious to know how her child was faring, she asked,
Mirror, mirror, on the wall,
Is my Pitch Black wise enough for her age?

The mirror answered:
She has lived a very sheltered life, my Queen. Wisdom can be gained best from experience and adventure, which the lovely princess lacks. So great is her beauty that very few would dare to cross her. She is so used to always having her way, as deeply loved, and cared for as she is.

The queen took fright and paced back and forth around her chamber. She knew that beauty could be dangerous too. She knew Pitch Black blindly trusted anyone who praised her beauty. It did not bode well for her future or that of the Kingdom. From that hour on, whenever she looked at Pitch Black, her heart turned over inside her body, so great was her worry for the girl’s future. The concern and anxiety grew with each passing day until her nights were sleepless and her days were a blur.

Then she summoned a huntsman and said to him, “Take Princess Pitch Black out into the woods. Deep in the heart of the forest, you will find a dwelling where seven dwarfs live. Once you meet them, hand over my letter to them, entrust the Princess to their care and return. At any cost, do not let the Princess return with you to the Palace.”

Saying this, she handed over a thick roll of parchment which was sealed with her royal stamp. In the letter addressed to the seven dwarfs, she expressed her worry about the Princess’ future and sought their assistance to tutor the young Princess.

The huntsman obeyed and took Pitch Black to the seven dwarfs. He handed over the letter from the Queen to the seven dwarfs and was about to return to the Palace when she began to cry, saying, “Oh, dear huntsman, let me return to the Palace. I cannot be away from my dear Father.”

Because she was so beautiful, the huntsman almost took pity on her. But he remembered his wise Queen’s words. He took his leave and returned to the Palace.
