Pitch Black and the Seven Dwarfs – Part 4

The poor child was now all far from the comfort of her Palace. She was very wary about her new Guardians. So afraid was she, that she tried with all her might to open the door. But the door simply didn’t budge. Taking pity on her futile attempts, the dwarfs informed her that she was now under their spell in their magical realm. The stubborn little, blue door that remained shut was the only way out. She was to be under their care until she mastered all the virtues that were essential for a young Princess.

Princess Pitch Black was rather used to charming her way out of tight spots. Even after all these years, the palace staff weren’t immune to her charms. However, the seven dwarfs were much more smarter and not so gullible.

Life at the dwarfs’ humble dwelling was in stark contrast to the sheltered life she had led at the Palace. Every day the seven dwarves left for their respective occupations. Despite the poking and prodding that she had done, she was still clueless about whatever it was that they did to earn a livelihood. Pitch Black had given up on devising ways to escape. She knew that it was pointless and resigned herself to her fate. She learned to keep house for them, cook, make beds, wash, sew, and knit, and keep everything clean and in order – tasks that she never used to bother herself with, back at the Palace. At the Palace, she always had numerous maids and helpers to take care of all of that. Unknown to Pitch Black herself, all the menial labours taught her numerous life lessons that books and famed tutors had failed to teach her.

Meanwhile, back at the Palace, the King grew restless about Pitch Black’s prolonged absence. But Queen Rowena reassured him that she was safe and under the guidance of her trusted advisors. Every day she asked her magical mirror:

Mirror, mirror, on the wall,
Who in this land is the wisest of all?
And always it answered…
