When she heard the mirror’s announcement, Queen Rowena was giddy with happiness. “Pitch Black shall come back,” she shouted, “I will fetch her and escort her to the Palace myself!”

Queen Rowena disguised herself as an old peddler woman, so that no one at the Palace or the kingdom would recognize her as she made her way to house of the seven dwarfs. Knocking on the door she called out, “Beautiful wares for sale, for sale!”

At the sound of the knock, Pitch Black peered out the window and said, “Good day, my dear, what do you have for sale?”

“Good wares, beautiful wares,” she answered. “I have beautiful fruits – ripe, sweet and juicy.” And she took out a basket of plump red apples. Offering one to Pitch Black, she asked, “Would you like this one?”

Pitch Black stuck her head out the window and said, “I am not allowed to let anyone in. The dwarfs have locked me in the house with their spells.”

“That is all right with me, dear,” answered the old peasant woman. “I’ll pass them through the window. Here, I’ll give you one of them.”

“No,” said Pitch Black, “I cannot accept anything. The dwarves have given me everything that I could possibly want.”

“Are you afraid that I will demand payment?” asked the old woman. “It’s a pity that a beautiful maiden like you has to be locked up in the house. I am feeling rather hungry, but I will split my lunch with you. I’ll cut the apple in two. You can eat one half, and I shall eat the other half.”

Pitch Black longed for the beautiful apple, and when the peasant woman offered her a half, she could no longer resist the craving. She stuck her hand out and took the proffered half.

    1. Oh yeah. It might have been poisoned but it was definitely organic, wax-free and pesticide free. Much more than we can ever hope to get! Although during my trip to Shimla, we did get freshly plucked apples. They were lovely. But when you are far from there, you can hope for fresh, unadulterated apples..or any other food item for that matter!
Less than 24 hours to go for the finale! 😀

    1. Haha. I’ve almost completed a ebook that contains 100 of my tiny tales. But I didn’t quite get around to publishing it. Thank you so much, Pooja. Your comment means a lot 🤩❤️🤗
