Cloudy skies

The afternoon sun’s rays
Paints a canvas of brilliant azure
Blissful blue sky
Luminous and bewitching
Spotted with white, fluffy clouds
Wispy and fuzzy
Like balls of cotton
They sail across the azure sky
Engulfing the sun
Plunging the sky into darkness.
Their ragged edges glow brightly
Courtesy of their radiant victim
Gradually, they release him
From their silvery grip
He dazzles the sky
His golden rays spread warmth
Celebrating his release
Even the clouds can’t trap him forever
He’ll always find a way
To shine through,
Dispelling darkness with his rays.

Cloudy skies will turn clear too.
They don’t remain cloudy forever!

(103 words)

The sun will always find a way to shine through. Light will always find a way. Darkness can’t last forever. It is one message that we should keep reminding ourselves in these difficult times. There will be a light at the end of the tunnel. This too, shall pass.

This tiny tale was written in response to the Crimson’s Creative Challenge #136 hosted by Crispina Kemp. The challenge is to write something creative in 150 words or less based on the given photo prompt. Thank you, Crispina for hosting the CCC challenge.

For the visually challenged reader, the image shows the sun almost obscured by huge white clouds in the grey sky.

    1. Thank you so much, Sadje. This was a train of thought that I first got when I saw that picture for one of your recent WDYS – the one at the pier overlooking a lake. But I couldn’t find a way to express it and I went with an entirely different take.

    1. Thank you so much, Vignesh. I’m so happy to hear what. It’s sweet that you think I’m wise. I feel I have so much to improve! 🤭 Regardless, I have to thank my parents, friends, my teachers, my experiences and all of my alma mater. But it’s a great college. Your cousin will definitely enjoy his college life. I hope that covid doesn’t turn all of it into a virtual experience!

      1. Haha. But college is not the same anymore. We had a lot of fun in the pre-covid times. Yeah – virtual. Sigh! I hope that it doesn’t stay that way forever
