I may not look like Superman
But I am a hero in my own right
You might think
That I am not smart enough
When you see me
Chasing butterflies
or even my own tail at times!
But, you see, it's just a facade
All superheroes need a cover
A fake identity to hide behind
I am no Ironman, I am Superdog!
No sir, I prefer anonymity to fame
I mark my territory and guard it fiercely
I chase away cats and intruders
I bark at anyone who seems unfriendly
I even attack anything that looks suspicious
Be it pillows, plants, footwear, or even newspaper
I won't stop until the threat is neutralized
I drive away your tension with my tricks
I am loyal to a fault, dedicated and faithful
I am too cute to be ignored
And persistent enough to get all that I want
To others, I might just be a dog
But I am your whole world
I will be your superhero
I will do everything in my power
To keep you safe and happy
As long as I shall breathe
Not all superheroes wear capes
Some have four paws and a wagging tail
Just like me!
This poem was written in response to Sadje’s What Do You See prompt #88. Thank you, Sadje for hosting this challenge. The challenge is to use the picture prompt as inspiration to compose an original story, poem, or a caption.
For the visually challenged reader this image shows a dog wearing a shirt with “Superman” logo on it. There is a cape flowing from the back of the T- shirt.
