With you…

If I am ever stuck
Without even the slightest bit of luck
In the middle of nowhere
With no way to get out of there,
I hope it will be with you
To keep me company all the way through

Come sunshine or rain
I know you will always remain
By my side through it all
When I am with you,
My troubles seem small
My smiles last a while longer
My heart beats just a little faster
It swells with happiness and love
And my soul feels free like a dove

With you by my side
My life turns so much brighter
I feel a whole lot lighter
Nothing can weigh down my heart
I wish we will never have to be apart
Oh, darling, you make me whole
You are the other half of my soul
My past, present, and future
Are much better with you in them

I am glad that we found each other
And as we brave life together
Our love only grows stronger
And it will last forever
If I am ever stuck
Without even the slightest bit of luck
I hope it's with you, by my side

This poem was written in response to Sadje’s What Do You See prompt #89 and Di’s Three Things Challenge #650. Thank you, Sadje and Di for hosting these challenges. The What Do You See challenge is to use the picture prompt as inspiration to compose an original story, poem, or a caption. The Three Things Challenge is to use one, two or all three of the given words in your post. The words for today’s challenge were fast, past and last.

For the visually challenged reader, this image shows an old car parked in snow. The luggage rack on the top of the car has a rubber raft on it.

This would probably be the first time I attempted to write a love poem. It feels a bit weird given the picture prompt. But this is what came to my mind when I saw the picture!

  2. reading your poems, i’m reminded of what emily dickinson said about poetry:

“If I read a book and it makes my whole body so cold no fire can warm me I know that is poetry. If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry. These are the only way I know it.”

keep up the good work and publish them in a book someday.

    1. Oh wow. That’s so kind of you, Plaridel. I’m so happy to hear that! Your words have made my day indeed! Thank you so much. I do plan on compiling them into an e-book one day. Thanks a lot for you encouraging words. ❤️🤗

  3. This was a very beautiful love poem, it’s hard to believe that it’s only a first attempt at one. The rhyme and rhythym maintained throughout added a nice homely feel to it – and the words were clearly ones of true devotion. I write a lot of poetry, but I also haven’t written that many love poems. When I have – they’ve been ones that examine deep parts of human nature while simultaneously showing love to another person. Basically, they sort of analyse the concept of love while also showing it.

    1. That’s so sweet of you, Simone. Thanks a lot for your kind and encouraging words. Love poems are tricky, I feel. Yes, love poems do tend to analyse love and show it at the same time. I have got to drop by and read more of your poetry 😃

  4. Beautiful first love poem. I guess love is a language that speaks beyond words even on paper. No right or wrong way to write about love.
