One-liner Wednesdays #28

Cynical

(adjective)

When life has worn you down so much that you start seeing only the dark side of everything and you think that fairy tales, romcoms, and inherent goodness don’t exist in the real world.

This post was written in response to today’s One-Liner Wednesday challenge from Linda G. Hill. The challenge, as the name implies is to come up with a one-liner. This post is also a response to Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (aka, FOWC) which requires the participants to write a post of any length using the word for the day – “Cynical”. Please click on the link to know more about the rules of these challenges and/or to read the other entries by my fellow bloggers.

In a recent poll, I got to know that One-liner Wednesdays is the least favourite regular feature on my blog! I didn’t do one last week and nobody noticed. I have to admit that I was a bit sad initially, but I have decided to keep this feature going no matter what. I love to give alternate definitions for commonplace words and I hope that there’s at least a small group of people who enjoy this as much as I do!

Wherever you are, I hope you are safe and well. Take care.

  1. Wonderful, Shweta! I remember someone on reading this. 😅

I noticed that you missed last week, as it was your posts that led me to Linda’s sites. I just thought you were busy.

One-liners are fun. It’s good knowing that you’re sticking with your idea. In the recent times, your definition for alarm is my favourite!

    1. Uh oh. It made you remember someone? Is that good or bad? I hope it isn’t bad!

Oh, yay. Small victory. Someone noticed! I was busy but I still manage to fit in my blogging stuff somehow. But last week, I didn’t feel like posting any one-liners and I didn’t push myself as hard as I usually would.

I am so happy to hear that, Anisha. Yes, I will keep on writing. Haha, the alarm one was good. Even I can’t stop laughing at the thought of it! Thanks a lot and I am so glad that I was able to lead you to this wonderful challenge. I love your Wednesday tidbits too! 🙂

      1. No, some situations do cut through whatever mood that we are feeling and force us to feel something else. Like you might be happy but some news might make you feel sad temporarily. Emojis can be handy in those times. Don’t you think?

    1. I think it was a matter of relative appeal. I guess some of my other series were much more appealing! 😅
Thank you so much for the vote of confidence, Sadje. I’m happy to know that you like this one 🥰

  3. Cynical is sometimes a natural response for me. I like the word choice, but since it is kind of a “downer” word I would love if you had offered an antonym. Sorry to have missed some of your recent posts, but I enjoy visiting when I have the time. – Dave

    1. I agree. It’s bit of a downer word and that’s why I tried to define it in a way that could make even a cynic smile. Thank you for dropping by. It’s okay, Dave. I can understand that time is a constraint. I have to catch up on your posts too. Thanks for visiting whenever you have the time. 😃

  4. Oh absolutely love your definition of cynical, Shweta. I say good for you! And another good for you for maintaining this theme despite others not appreciating it. Just follow your heart and you will succeed. I know!! Much love to you! xo
